Ever wonder what I do at work?

I spend my days with these people. They only dress like this once a year. (I'm really glad that it's only once- we didn't get very much work done today)- but the girls got a lot of candy.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

How I spent our anniversary

What a beautiful place to spend an anniversary! Only not ALONE.

This is the view from my window. Gorgeous- I know. Too bad I don't get to enjoy being poolside at all.

Here are the guys I got to spend my 7th anniversary with. Two superheroes. I also got asked to dance by two dancers on stilts. They had me copy what they were doing. Yes, I surprised several people that I had it in me.

No comment on the shirt? So, our theme at this conference is "Be an IT Hero" (Not "it" but I.T.). Activision is one of LANDesk customers so they worked with us on the t-shirts. They were a complete hit. I felt a little like a rocker chic and was half tempted to do major smokey eyes, but I wimped out.

Since we went to Universal Studios, I have to comment briefly on the experience. Lenovo rented out the "Island of Adventure" portion of the resort. For those of you not familiar with Universal Studios, (of which I am one), Island of Adventure has the Incredible Hulk ride and the Spiderman ride. HOLY COW!!!! We strap in to the Hulk ride. I'm thinking, "no big deal- We did Cedar Point when I was pregnant with Jade. I can handle anything." We gradually start climbing and then BAM we are thrown back in our seats as the car accelerates from 0-40 mph in 2 seconds flat. Talk about an exciting ride.

After that we headed over to the Spiderman Adventure. It was not at all what I expected. I was told it was a simulation ride. I was expecting to get in one of those closed in cars that just rock back and forth while you watch a video. Um, no, not at all. This ride was INTENSE. You have 3-D glasses and you get in a normal roller coaster type car. You get straped in and you are off. Spiderman sits on the hood of the car and points his finger at you. Then each villian comes right up to the car. For one you get sprayed with water, another you get blasted with heat as if you are really experiencing these bad guys. I have to admit, I did scream once. You are on the top of a roof and you are shot off. As you are heading to the road 15 stories below, you feel your stomach being left behind and just as you are about to hit the street, you are caught in a web. I saw the street coming closer and closer and I screamed. I couldn't help it. Now I know how real my fear of falling is.

So, I didn't get to spend my anniversary with Scott and I had to socialize from 6:30 this morning until 11:00 tonight with 100's of Lenovo sales reps and managers. But I did get to go to Universal Studios and look out at a beautiful pool. I would have still preferred to be at home celebrating our family with my family.

My Drive to Work- March 27th

When I left my house, the sky was blue and I needed sunglasses. Once I hit the point of the mountain, this is what I saw. You can tell by the cars in our parking lot it had been going for awhile. I guess the blizzard just hit Utah County. So much for SPRING!

The Online Resume

I read a really interesting article today (as I waited for an hour for Jade's doctor's appointment). It was about the new online resume that you don't really think of as a resume. Fortunately my "online resume" is perfect. The article was all about MySpace and Facebook pages. It said that if you are on MySpace, chances are your future employer is as well. It also talks about how a future employer will google your name before extending an offer. It used actual examples of how people did not get an offer because their MySpace account showed them doing obnoxious things or talking negatively about previous bosses. You wouldn't think about your personal page making you lose a job!
So, I googled my name. I found my "LinkedIn" profile and that's all. I think that that is just sad. It means I have done nothing impressive or noteworthy. Maybe one day I'll be listed as the mother of Jade Sanford- star gymnast or mother of Ivy Sanford- winner of American Idol. Okay, maybe not :)
Until then, I guess I am glad that my "online resume" won't keep me from getting a job. But it also won't help me get a job. Good thing I already have a really good one!

What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger...

Work has been absolutely horrific lately. It is the end of the year and we've had over 1.5 million dollars scheduled to come in this last week. The last 820k I've been working on all night. Its 1AM here, and the people I'm working with have been in Raleigh, Mexico City, Baca Raton, Brazil and Shenzen China. It's amazing to see a company rally together to get an order through the system when it means 4 million in Lenovo revenue. This order has been an absolute roller coaster for the past week and a half. We have the order, we don't have the order, the reseller has credit issues, the customer hasn't signed the contract etc etc. So finally today, everyone settled on how to process the order. Unbelievably the Director at Ingram neglected to tell his procurement director to process the order and then he went somewhere in a very dark deep hole without cell phone access. If this one order didn't put LANDesk North America over their number, I wouldn't feel such pressure. As it does- man what a migraine! So now we wait until tomorrow to process or not process. I'm so exhausted! But then, just as I'm getting ready to go to bed, I realize the last EMEA order is missing 2 part numbers. Guess I'm not going to sleep yet.

At least the hours of waiting for this evening to evolve, we visited with Mom and Dad and played Rockband. I was very pleased with myself on guitar and think maybe I should start taking guitar lessons. Okay- not because of Rockband, but because I remember hanging with guys and having them teach me songs. I always really enjoyed it- and gosh, I suck at the piano and had some talent at the cell0. Only I thought it was too boring to keep it up.

Well, back to emails and IMs to track down the EMEA order and a con call tomorrow morning to finalize the Mexico details. Goodness Gracious what I tiring job I have. Jade told me tonight that she missed me tonight- even though I was right there with her. I think new years resolutions won't be hard to make this year- I'll just have to keep them.
