School Pictures and Tooth #7

Picture day is a special day, it's the day we get our children documented for posterity. We curl their hair, we buy them new clothes, we press their shirts and we mascara their eyes. So we can document each year.

I was supposed to go out of town on Monday, but picture day was Tuesday, so I changed my flight. (As it turned out, I came down with a secondary infection to my bronchitis and a kidney infection, so I couldn't travel after all). I loved getting the girls ready for pictures.

Ivy was so excited, and promised me she smiled pretty. If the professional pictures don't turn out, I'm pretty excited about the ones I got of both girls.

Jade had a very loose tooth, but I made her promise me she would quit wiggling it until after pictures. She stuck to her promise and did a lot of wiggling after her pictures were taken at school. Unfortunately I hadn't gotten any of her that morning, so I missed getting her smile full of teeth.

I was waiting for Jade to get home from school, so that I could take a few pictures of her and Ivy before Jade rushed off to gymnastics. It was starting to get late and Kim called to tell us the bad news. Jade had been wiggling her tooth while she was waiting for the carpool. She wiggled it so much, it fell right out. While she was holding it in her hand to display for the boys, she dropped it. Crushed, they looked and looked and looked- but didn't find it. Jade was upset about it, but not because the tooth fairy wouldn't be able to give her money, she was upset because I always take a picture of her and her tooth. Kim gave her a little treasure chest to put under her pillow in place of her tooth. We'll need to write a note to the tooth fairy explaining what happened and then put it with the chest.

Well, this time we didn't get to fun pictures of her and her tooth, but she'll always have a story to tell of how she lost her 7th tooth. (Crazy, that she'll be able to read back in this journal to know how she has lost all of her teeth. I don't even remember how I lost my first- let alone my 7th.) So, below you will see the picture of her pointing to her hole, and that's likely the best we'll get for that tooth picture.

The girls weren't being overly cooperative for their pictures, but at least I've got some from this year, similar to what I got last year. (Those of you that click on that link- can you believe how much they have grown up in the past year? Especially Ivy!)

Who lost her first tooth?

On February 3rd Jade lost her first tooth. But if you ask her, she didn't lose it, she knows exactly where it is. The day she lost it, it was in a little bag. The next day it was with the Tooth Fairy. She was so excited. The morning it fell out she was turning it around backwards. It was awful looking but it popped out really nicely.

The Tooth Fairy left 1$ for her first tooth. She was so excited she took the dollar to school for her show and tell.

Things like Jade losing her first tooth, the giggles sledding, reading books from her bookcase and cartwheeling all over the family room are the things that make being a parent so awesome.

Tooth #8 and how it happened...

Just before Christmas, while Jade was rehearsing for the 1st grade Christmas program, her cute friend challenged her to pull out her somewhat loose tooth. Jade tugged and tugged. It finally came out. It bled and bled but she got on the school tooth board and got a cute little pink box to put her tooth in.

Why am I telling you this now? Well, as you know, we have a tradition of taking pictures of Jade with her tooth or at least the gap. We kept meaning to take the picture, but then we'd be running late and she'd come home looking exhausted and so it went. For months. Finally, in January, I set up my new lights and just played around a little with her. She wasn't dressed cute, her hair wasn't done and I'm not sure she had even brushed her teeth yet. But she wanted to finally document her tooth.

Why did I wait another month to finally post the pictures? Well, I meant to have Jade tell me the story and put it in her words. After so much time had passed, the story- according to Jade- was just about what was written in the first paragraph. So much for her being a gifted story teller. :)

Tooth #6

My little toothless wonder has now lost as many teeth as she is old. While my nephew has lost one tooth, and Jade's friend just lost his second, my little girl has lost SIX! That is just crazy.

On the 16th of March, I had landed in Atlanta- en route to Raleigh. I called the girls to say hello and Jade said her tooth was really loose. She wanted to pull it out. So, I told her to try and call me back. She wimped out and had Miss Kim try. Miss Kim pulled it out. I'm not sure it was really ready to come out- it bled a bit. Jade was thrilled to have it out.

She's been sick the past week and a half, so we waited until a sunny day and a healthy girl to take the tooth pictures. She took this photo shoot a bit more towards the "thoughtful" side than she has in the past.

Tooth #5- It's a good story to tell...

Jade called me New Year's morning and said, "Mom, my tooth fell out. Harrison kicked me in the face."

Now, I know that it was an accident but it was fun to call Kat to tell her she needs to get her son, the "bully", to behave. Kat and Jon got a kick out there little guy knocking out her 5th tooth.

What happened was innocent as could be. The kids were playing in the play room. It's their favorite place on earth. There is a slide and they will climb up and slide down over and over again. On the morning of new years, Jade was climbing up and Harrison was sliding down- just like always. If someone is coming down and someone is going up, the one going down typically wins. Even if he's little, a light weight and as sweet as they come.

Tooth Number 3

In our house, you can't put your tooth under your pillow until we've had a photo shoot. I have to point out that I am not the one that drives that behaviour. Jade insists and picks where she wants to take the pictures. She gets so excited showing her cute little tooth. We've been wiggling it for months. The past week its been really loose. We have a rule that only Mommy can pull it out. It freaks Daddy out- I guess it's gross. (The one with the gag reflex has no problem with it- go figure). Unfortunately, Mommy didn't get to pull this one out. Jade was heading into gymnastics on Monday and had spent the whole day wiggling it. She was worried about it falling out during gymnastics, so Miss Kim pulled it out for her. It's amazing that she isn't even 6 and has lost 3 teeth. Although, our friend Bella has lost more teeth and they are the same age. It just means we have to take extra good care of her new teeth for a longer period of time.

I love this toothless grin- and the toothless lisp it is creating.

Silly Little Girl with Two Missing Teeth

Cute little Jade has now lost both of her bottom teeth. It is so adorable. As soon as she lost it, she said we needed to take pictures before the ToothFairy could come. So pictures we did. Of course the ToothFairy had to wait about a week before she could come. For her second tooth, she got 50 cents. It seems the first tooth is more important than the following ones- at least more expensive.

Six Month Check-up and First time to the Dentist

Jade has always loved going to the dentist. When she was one she fell in the bathtub and hit her mouth. She broke her front tooth. We had a dentist in our ward that looked at her and tooth and said she was okay. Then when we were in Michigan, she again fell- in the bath. Maybe she needs to be a little more careful in the tub. This time we took her to an emergency dentist. She loved sitting in the chair. She was happy and willing to do everything the dentist asked of her.

Every 6 months we go through the routine. Jade does great every single time.

This time was Ivy's very first time going to the dentist. I was a little concerned that she would be a little freaked out. I had hoped they would they would wait for me to get there to start. But they started without me and she was great through the x-rays, the cleaning and the fluoride.

Once they were done and nearly cavity free, they had their pictures taken with the dental hygienists. Happy and ready to go again in 6 more months.
